Intermediate Reading Lesson on Hoarding
The popularity of reality television shows on hoarding indicates people are fascinated (or horrified?) by hoarding. Your students may find this intermediate level reading lesson interesting. The questions require learners to interpret information by making inferences and require them to extend their literal comprehension and form opinions and new ideas from the information in the text. An adverb exercise is included.

Earth Day
Earth Day is coming up and this blog has a number of environment related materials you could make use of for beginner or intermediate English language learners, whether ESL or EFL.
Earth HOUR for Low Beginners
In 2019, Earth Hour is on March 30th from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Earth Hour is an annual symbolic gesture to unite with other people of the world to express a commitment to protect the Earth. The simple act of turning off lights is easy to convey to low beginner English language learners.
St. Patrick's Day for Low Beginners
Your ESL or EFL students will notice people wearing green on March 17th and may see shamrocks and leprechauns. Help them crack our cultural code with a lesson on St. Patrick's Day. Teachers are welcome to download the following strip story for low beginners for non-commercial classroom use. Click on the images and a PDF lesson will pop up that you can print out. If it is too low for your students, perhaps you could pass it on to another teacher as low beginner materials are often hard to find.
International Women's Day for Low Beginners
Many countries celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th. In some countries, it is the equivalent of Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day.
Valentine's Day Reading for Low Beginners
Your students will notice the ubiquitous hearts and flowers on Valentine's Day. Help them crack the cultural code by teaching about this widely observed special day in Anglo-culture.
Labour Day / Labor Day Reading for Low Beginners
Labour Day / Labor Day is celebrated in both Canada and America on the first Monday in September. I've created strip stories and worksheets for American and Canadian ELL students that are free for non-commercial classroom teacher use only. New Year's Activities for Beginner and Intermediate
The most common ESL activity for the first class back after New Year's is writing New Year's Resolutions. It’s a great way for beginner classes to practice the future tense and can make for some fun reading if posted in the classroom.
Canadian Statutory Holidays Reading Lesson for Beginners
This lesson is suited to classes learning the names of Canada's provinces and territories and their abbreviations and to those learning the names of the statutory holidays of Canada. It is also relevant to study of employment law.
