International Women's Day for Low Beginners

Many countries celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th. In some countries, it is the equivalent of Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day.

The following word search for low beginner ESL or EFL features vertical, horizontal and diagonal words. As English directionality does not come automatically and needs to become automatic, all horizontal words are written from left to right and all words travelling upwards or downwards on the diagonal also begin on the left. Vertical words travel downwards, from top to bottom.

Numerous words almost appear twice, making it challenging for students, requiring them to look carefully and check exact spelling.

To make this page generic enough to be used when teaching about family, the words international and day do not appear in the vocabulary list, but are featured in the word search. Teachers can write those words on the board as a bonus, perhaps as tie breaking round if some students finish at the same time.
